START: About a mile before White Creek junction
FINISH: Just south of Larch Hill Pass
DISTANCE: 63 miles (101.4 km)
DAILY AVERAGE: 31.5 miles (50.7 km)
TOTAL DISTANCE: 194 miles (312.1 km)
HIGHLIGHTS:
Views on the northern side of Switchback Pass……..three white-tailed deer bounding effortlessly through the forest at sunrise…….rejuvenating midday swim at the lake situated just before Switchback Pass (second photo from the bottom).
LOWLIGHTS:
– Quite a few burnt out sections; all of which were dotted with pink flowered plants which looked a little like Poodle Dog Bushes (thankfully they were toothless).
– Not making the side trip to “Palookaville”; will I ever have another opportunity? Has to rate up there alongside Zanzibar and Timbuktu as one of my all-time favourite town names.
NOTES & MUSINGS:
Met my first northbound CDT thru hiker, a young bloke by the name of Sandman, who began at the Mexican border on April 15.
